Female Yu-Gi-Oh! player leaves tournament early because players smelled bad
A female Yu-Gi-Oh! player in Japan allegedly left a tournament early because of how bad the venue and players smelled.
In a tweet, a male Yu-Gi-Oh player shared their concerns after the female player left the tournament earlier. He was concerned that she had been bullied out by the cutthroat players that tend to show up at these types of events.
The player’s comments were largely well received by the wider community, however a quote retweet from a woman who thinks she may be the one referred to had a different take on events. She decided to set the record straight since people were concerned over how she was treated when in truth… she just couldn’t take the smell any longer.
I saw this because it was circulating, but considering the circumstances, it might be me? I left halfway through because I couldn’t stand the smell It’s not like I lost or was sad.
Personal hygiene has been a big issue for decades, especially at conventions, and especially at tournaments. The situation has gotten so bad at some Super Smash Bros. tournaments that competitors may be disqualified for excessive body odor and filth.
Meanwhile, the Yu-Gi-Oh! fanbase is still going strong, the online game Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel recently celebrated over 60 million downloads and awarded players 1,000 free gems for hitting the milestone (card games are the original gacha).
Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel has been available for Windows PC (via Steam), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and both iOS and Android.
Meanwhile soap is available at your local pharmacy.
